When evening fades

I really should be praying more in the morning than at night. Start the day right with God.

Somehow the night fills me with calm. Everyone is asleep, and there is silence. It is not an empty silence, but a call of solitude where I can breathe and just be – to reflect on the day and refill with scriptures to prepare me for the next day. Then while I sleep, all that I’ve read dwells with me, and when I wake, I am ready to do as tasked.

Save us, Lord, while we are awake; protect us while we sleep; that we may keep watch with Christ and rest with him in peace.

Lord our God,

restore us again by the repose of sleep

after the fatigue of our daily work,

so that, continually renewed by your help,

we may serve you in body and soul.

Through Christ our Lord,
