For nothing is impossible with God

Yesterday I asked the Lord: “What am I competent to do?” (I had a lot of things to do but didn’t feel like I could complete them.)

Today I received the reply. 

God asks that we trust in Him. He will do the rest.

We are not asked to part the Red Sea, we are asked to be courageous, to have compassion and follow God. God will do everything else – the miracles, things we thought impossible, He will teach us what to say, send us company, He will send angels to lead us, He has and will continue to save us, He will redeem us and protect us from enemies.

Moses didn’t have riches and wasn’t highly competent for the task ahead. At least, not by human standards. He recognised his weaknesses too – see and believe God’s replies. 

“Who am I that I should go to Pharoah and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?” [Exodus 3:11] 

Who am I God that you chose me to fulfill this task? I am unfit to carry it to completion. 

“God answered: I will be with you; and this will be your sign that I have sent you. When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you will serve God at this mountain.” [Exodus 3:12]

You are not unfit for this task, as I will be with you. I will provide for you, I will guide you. I will turn your weaknesses to strengths. This is my promise to you: that those you draw to the Lord will be here, worshipping and serving – a guarantee that you are truly sent for this mission. It will not be a fruitless errand. You will succeed. 

“But,” objected Moses, “suppose they do not believe me or listen to me?” [Exodus 4:1] 

But what if there are obstacles / difficulties along the way? 

“The Lord said to him: What is in your hand? “A staff,” he answered. God said: Throw it on the ground. So he threw it on the ground and it became a snake, and Moses backed away from it. Then the Lord said to Moses: Now stretch out your hand and take hold of its tail. So he stretched out his hand and took hold of it, and it became a staff in his hand. That is so they will believe…” [Exodus 4:2-5] 

These obstacles and difficulties may seem scary at first- even Moses backed away! But trust in me. I will help you, I will guide you so that you will be able to take hold of the challenges, and overcome them, witnessing that nothing is impossible. Your life will be a testimony, and others will believe by your faith. 

“I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor now that you have spoken to your servant; but I am slow of speech and tongue.” [Exodus 4:10] 

I am not skilled enough, competent enough to complete this task, not in the past, and still not now. I am __(insert weaknesses here)__. I am not ready. 

“The Lord said to him: Who gives one person speech? Who makes another mute or deaf, seeing or blind? Is it not I? The Lord? Now go, I will assist you in speaking and teach you what you are to say.” [Exodus 4:11-12] 

I will give you what you need, I will equip you for this journey. I will not leave you to fend for yourself. I will guide you.

Remember that “God does not call the qualified, He qualifies the called.” God could have called Moses when he was still in Egypt, living in riches, young and confident. But God called Moses when he was older, a shepherd without riches or high status, without self-confidence. 

Holy Spirit, lead me where my trust is without borders. If I should falter, guide me and teach me what to do and say. If fear causes me to doubt, lift my eyes from the waves and remind me again of God’s goodness. If my feet should stumble and tire, refresh me with renewed hope – so that I may complete the task set before me, inspired by the faithful men and women who have pursued this race before me.
